VGX Pharmaceuticals announced that the Company’s
collaborators from the Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Group (AACTG) have presented
a scientific poster at the 46th Annual International Conference on Antimicrobial
Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) in San Francisco. The poster presentation
entitled, “A5200, Phase I/II Trial of the Anti-HIV Activity of Mifepristone
(MIF) in HIV Infected Subjects (ICAAC06-A-1171-ASM) presented results
from the A5200 study conducted by AACTG and VGX as the first Phase I/II
clinical trials of PICTOVIR™, a lead drug compound for the treatment
of HIV infection (See Press Released dated 12/29/2005).
A5200 Study’s Chairman Professor Michael Para, MD of Ohio State
University presented poster on behalf of the A5200 team. This double-blinded,
placebo-controlled, multi-center, multi-dose, randomized, Phase I/II study
was conducted at 8 different AACTG site, including Ohio State University,
UCLA, University of Pennsylvania, University of Washington, and Georgetown
University. PICTOVIR™ doses of 75 to 225 mg/d were safe and well-tolerated
and in vivo biologic activity was confirmed in the higher dosage arms.
Based upon these results, the VGX Pharmaceuticals is currently conducting
additional Phase II clinical trials for PICTOVIR™ with higher dosage
levels to determine the dosage level necessary to achieve a clinically
significant antiviral effect.
